| Video Discription | Supreme Court to consider a plea today that seeks to stay the swearing-in of advocate LC Victoria Gowri as a judge in the Madras high court. Madras High Court to get 5 new judges today. Of these, three are women- LC Victoria Gowri, R Kalaimathi and K Govindarajan Thilakavadi. A 1992 precedent has been cited to challenge the appointment of Victoria Gowri as a judge. Senior Advocate Raju Ramachandran, appearing for petitioners, has challenged her appointment on the ground that she has allegedly made hate speeches against religious minorities. In the 1992 case- Kumar Padma Prasad vs Union Of India And Ors 1992 2 SCC 428, the Supreme Court had quashed the appointment of K.N. Srivastava as a judge of the Gauhati High Court, before he took oath.
